Japan Donates School Facilities in Wakiso
Two government aided primary schools in Wakiso District have received school facilities from the Embassy of Japan in Uganda. The project of 90,741 USD (about 165 million Uganda shillings) was signed between the Embassy of Japan and Wakiso District local government in December 2009. With the funds, classrooms, latrines and water harvest tank have been constructed and school furniture provided.
St. Jude Banda Primary School and Kiteezi Centre for the Disableddid not have enough classrooms and furniture for the pupils, with some children sharing latrines with the church. The head teachers of the schools expressed their gratitude for the facilities provided.
H. E. Kazuo Minagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, officiated the handover that took place at St. Jude Banda Primary School. “Education is the foundation and backbone for development,” he said and added that Japan attaches much importance to universal education,thus funding to date the 75 educational projects in Uganda through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The donation by Japan this time is part of the GGP scheme administered by the Japanese Embassy to support community development projects to uplift the life of grassroots people. So far, 147 projects have been funded under the scheme in Uganda since its inception in Uganda in 1992.
Japan, steadily promoting ownership of and partnership with African countries through Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) process, is committed to boosting economic growth, achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and consolidating peace and good governance in Africa.
